TOP TEN NIGERIAN COMMERCIALS ON AIR RIGHT NOW

TOP 10 ADVERTS FOR THIS MONTH
This past month witnessed the debut of many
10 –
This AD is educative and makes you want to wash your hands. Nice stuff.
09 – ALWAYS SANITRY PAD (good to go)
This AD landed this spot mostly because of the choreography. The AD as a whole was well done and finished well.
08 –
The story line was well played out and we enjoy watching this elderly couple have differences on who they will prefare to be on their family and friends list.
07 –
The fact that they were trying to sell us voice clearity with a guy in the studio doing his thing the Nigerian way is a plus.
06 – PANADOL EXTRA (truck driver)
We love the song and we sing along always. We love the comic relief it brings with it and we laugh each time we watch it. We love this AD and the fact that its being on air for quit a while doesn’t really bother us because we are not yet tired of it.
05 – ETISALAT (N10000 FREE CREDIT)
This AD is not fantastic but people just love it since it started to air recently.
04 – TOP TEA (
This AD really really make sense and is sure to sell the product. The concept is just unique. You know, I just might ask for toptea if I visit
03 – INDOMIE ( mama do good)
What more can we say about this one? Guess children who are happy because they just had indomie makes us happy.
02 – OVALTINE (walking on sunshine)
‘ am walking on sunshine oh oh…..’ bringing back that Canadian hit song from the 80s is a smart move.
01 – VICKS (speak up
The first impression when you watch this AD for the first time is ‘aaawwwwwww.’ No long story. No unnecessary plots.

OVALTIN – WALKING ON SUNSHINE

OVALTIN – WALKING ON SUNSHINE
FIRST THOUGH….
Hmmmn nice. This ad makes since.
JUST SO YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT
Music starts to play the a second later, children (about20 of them star to sing the Canadian ‘walking on sunshine’ hit from the 80’s. as the children sing, they clap, wave their hands and move their body to the rhythm of the song as the tell us the ovaltine is rich in coco, milk sugar, vitality and taste.they
SCORE: 7/10
With ads like this, we won’t have to complain at all. This ad is simple and singable. Children who watch it want to see it again and end up humming the tune which is a good thing since the ad is targeted at them so they are sure to demand ovaltine from their mums.
A LITTLE INFO.
The ad was contracted out to JWT South Africa but shot in
IF YOU LIKE IT..
Then you liked indomie’s make the world a better place and mama do good.
VICKS BLUE – GIVING NIGERIA A VOICE
VICKS
FIRST THOUGHT
Aaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Isn’t that nice?
JUST SO YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT
It’s hard to describe this ad bit by bit as it unfolds because from start to finish, there is suspense and intrigue. You see, this ad is a combination of clips shot together and what these clips have in common is that they show people like us who need our clear voices to go about our daily lives. From the man who is excited and shouting to the world on a clif to the trader selling her wears to the over joye father whose wife has just been delivered of a baby girl to screaming football match spectators to the banker presenting in a board meeting to school children shouting the answer to the singer. Vicks believes in the power of the voice.
SCORE: 8/10
Never thought that the concept taking some sweets to soothe the voice can be taken this seriously. This ad just takes the idea to a completely new level. Nice one. The picture quality was cool. The sound – mcrystal. In fact, this ad in 46 seconds achieves so much. The clips of different Nigerians who need a clear voice to go about their daily life sold the concept of a clear voice. The concept of a clear voice sells the produnct. Am still not over this ad oh!
IF YOU LIKE IT……..
Then you liked the planta TV ad in the 80s, skye Bank’s I wish and all the prequals

ALWAYS (GOOD TO GO)
ALWAYS (GOOD TO GO)
JUST SO YOU’VE NOT SEEN IT
This ad opens with a class room scene that has a teacher and female students only. The teacher asks the girls if they are good to go for the day then the singing girls begin to tell us that tissue in not good to go but always is good to go as they run out singing, dancing throwing tissue papers and demonstrating how always works for up to 8 hours long so that they can stay happy always.
A LITTLE INFO
The advert critic is not yet sure which company handled the ad but will let you know as soon as he does. This particular ad was shot at a secondary school Lagos Nigeria and took a couple of days to get done.
SCORE: 7/10
Great singing voices, great choreography, beautiful girls. You could just watch it on and on even if you are a guy. The use of props is also on point (by the way, am still loving the 8 hour clock) at least, girls can now stay happy always.
IF YOU LIKE IT……
Then you definably like all the prequels.
CAPPY FRUIT JUICE (SOME MEE TIME)

CAPPY FRUIT JUICE (SOME
FIRST THOUGHT
JUST SO YOU’VE NOT SEEN IT
This lovely woman tells us how tedious or rather hectic it is to combine her day job with those of a mother, wife and home maker but she gets a little help from CAPPY JUICE. How? She simply creates a ‘me’ time with CAPPY and that helps her relax a lot since CAPPY is filled with natural nutrients and freshness so she is able to carry on and also tell her husband how good he is at his one job.
A LITTLE INFO
The AD was handled by Primer Garnet and shot in Lagos.
SCORE: 5/10
The message is passed in a simple, real and easy manner that the point is driven home and the message is passed. The recording and the miming of the voice was also well done so much so that one will think she was talking live and not miming. No doubt this add will sell the product as I myself have found myself looking for CAPPY Juice when I was stressed and needed a little ‘me’ time.LOL
IF YOU LIKE IT…..
…. Then you like Panadol extra with the truck driver and his family, Etisalat easy click and many more.
ONGA DIRTY HANDS
ONGA DIRTY HANDS
FIRST THOUGHT
‘oooook! What exactly is this advert about? Is it about the food seasoning or about dirty hands? Or are they trying to tell us that no matter how dirty your hands are Or where they have been, when you use ONGA, your food is already disinfected? I really don’t get it and neither does anyone I have come across yet. Or do you?
JUST SO UVE NOT SEEN IT
The ad opens with hands; different people’s hands doing all sorts of things like throwing away stuff in the trash, flush the toilet, cleaning food from the mouth and other stuff to show us all the possible un-hygienic places our hands might have been meanwhile a fist time watcher of the ad will Have no idea its food seasoning that is been advertised. One at that point would have thought the message of the ad was to promote washing of hands when all of a sudden, ONGA crashes the party from the nowhere and the confusion sets in so you begin to wonder if this ad is about washing of hands or food seasoning and why isn’t there a scene where the woman (Kate Henshaw-Nuttal I suppose) putting ONGA seasoning in her food washes her hands first?
SCORE: 2/10
I STILL DONT
IF YOU LIKE IT
I doubt if any like this ad that much but just so you fancy it, you will like STARTIMES, Panadol cold and catarrh, PREDICT TEST

THE NEW TOP TEN TV VOMMERCIALS FOR DCE. 09
Wasn’t that thrilling but had good quality and must have taken forever to put together as with all other NOKIA adverts (ads). One can tell at first glance at any that NOKIA ad that they are not produced for the Nigerian market alone.
09 ETISALAT – elite world
Clean! That’s the one adjective I can conveniently use to qualify this. Drives home the point and makes the person watching interested.
08 ADAM AND EVE – Jenifer / Sulia
Though not fitting nor real (can a ‘Jenifer” character really afford to shop at Adam and Eve?), it’s the picture quality and the fact that a lot of people still haven’t gotten over the ‘Jenifer’ character played by our very own FUNKE AKINDELE.
07 COWBELL VITARICH – smart boy
Though one is easily put off in the first few seconds of this ad, resisting the urge to make use of the remote control will get you to like it as it continues. Here the boy telling his mother’s friend what each vitamin does to the body makes you want to go get one.
06 QUATAR AIRWAYS – (ALL OF THEM)
Short, simple, nice and tantalizing are adjectives associated with this one. As short as each of them are (there are about six and still counting), the crystal clear message passed is – “come fly QUATAR AIR because you are sure to have an experience you won’t forget in a hurry”
05 CLEAR LINE HEALTH INSURANCE – hospital emergency
Though of a poor quality, it’s the message and the way its being passed across that lands this ad in this curveted position. It’s a hospital scene and an accident victim is rushed in. instead of the usual protocol of police report and the likes, the doctor sees his CLEAR LINE health insurance card and attends to him on time. Good stuff.
04 MCVITIS DIGESTIVE – wheat talk
Quite a brilliant work I must say. Two strands of wheat rejoicing that they are sure to be in MCVITES DIGESTIVE since it now costs just N120 is a nice idea. The Nigerian flavor it has also makes it one of a kind.
03 POWER HORSE – face the storm.
When we watch adverts, we know a lot of the messages are lies but we still watch waiting to see if we still can be made to believe the lie and get entertained at the same time. The only series of ads that has been consistent with making us believe the lies when they are so glaring are POWER HORSE. Imagine, how can someone take an energy drink and feel strong enough to face a violent storm? Still, am sure to buy the product because of the ad
02 PAMPERS – baby dance
The charm of the baby arrests you attention first. Then you get the message which is passed well and the baby’s dancing steps thrills you the more. Well, this is nothing short of a good job.
01 HARP LAGER – our friend’s promotion
The first time I saw this ad, I missed the company of my friends immediately. Just so you have not seen it, this ad will be reviewed next week or you can visit my blog so you can go sit in front of your TV immediately to catch a glimpse of it. This was well done with very good scripting. The actors were au-natural and the idea is original. Ha! I wish I could have HARP LARGA with my close friends. (I so hope my pastor don’t get to read this)
DONT FORGET TO LEAVE OYOUR TOUGHTS BEHIND!

The guy-shocked opens up that he has only N5000 with him since that’s what the signboard indicates. Then the hidden charges like 5%VAT etc are read to him by the waiter as ha and his girlfriend does the dishes in the kitchen.

Bitter truth
I hate drugs and I don’t get myself to take them until I have no other choice and the reason for this is because drugs generally don’t taste good so when I begin to feel funny, I first go to sleep hoping that by the time I wake up, I should feel better and if that does not happen, I go to God in prayers but if symptoms persists, I finally take the pill. If I had taken the pill in the first instance, and endure the bitterness, id have saved myself a lot of discomfort.
Drugs are meant to make us feel better health wise and the only price to pay apart from the amount of purchase is the bitterness so once we endure it, we get better. So is the truth.
But does the truth always have to be bitter? Won’t it be nice to have a sweeter version of chloroqeen? You know, our generation will take it that one is been hard on them when they are told the bitter truth. So why not sugar-coat it to make it go down faster!
Did your girlfriend refuse to help you with your laundry because of her nails? To tell her she is not a wife material is the bitter truth. Just tell her she is not domesticated. Did your man refuse to buy you the phone you asked for? Don’t say he is stingy. Say he is disciplined with his cash. To your guy who has lots of carry-overs, don’t think him an olodo. Think of him as been lazy at his books. even if you dare, don’t tell your lecturer he is wicked for giving the whole class a carry over in his course, tell him you know he is doing what’s best for you all.
Times do change and our generation doesn’t want the pill of truth told bitter. They want it sugarcoated. After all, it the same truth only sweetened because patience and prayers affect only things they should.
We all need to tell either ourselves or loved ones the truth every ones in a while and when that becomes imminent, it is better to use the Mary poppings style and wash it down with a spoon full of sugar than to continue to lie to ourselves. After all is said, the truth is biter only when not sugarcoated!

2009 IN RETROSPECT
In the telecoms sector, new commers like visa phone, zoom, etisalatand zain came on board. and also in the middle of the year, the NCC had to tell some network providers to hold it with adverts untill there servics were better.
some ads like airwick 2 in 1 flopped and others like harpic tiolet cleaner got it right.
last year also had some music star like banky w (etisalat), rooftop mc's (zain's tru talk) and the glo all stars.
The banks didnt do badly at all as intercontinental bank and gtbank led the pack.
some ads did halp round off the year well sha as im still loving the peak choco ad. have you heart the yoruba version on radio? infact, i had to go get me a sachet and i wasnt dissapointed at all.
well, this year our eyes are on them all. as we will be trashing them here so that they will not "pe aja ni obo fun wa oh" (call dog monkey for us oh)
JOIN ME HERE SOON AND MAKE SURE YOU INVITED YOUR FRIENDS OH!
